Foodies delight! Ingredients from the kitchen can be used to create some of the most effective, cost-efficient beauty treatments around.
These days, people are searching for natural beauty products that aren’t loaded with chemical fillers. Unfortunately, some of the all-natural, organic products on the market are as hard on the wallet as their chemical counterparts are on the skin. An effective alternative is to create beauty products and treatments with real foods as ingredients. How Sweet It IsHoney is one of the most powerful foods found in nature. It is extremely nourishing for the skin and helps to moisturize and eliminate fine lines and wrinkles. It also has tremendous antibacterial and antifungal properties. Whether used to help cure acne or as a solution for dry skin, a basic Honey Mask works wonders. Simply place a cloth in warm water and apply to the face to open pores. Slather on some pure, raw honey and let sit for 10-15 minutes. Remove with warm water then use cold water to close and tighten the pores. Mashed WonderThe bananas is another superfood that is extremely nourishing for the skin. Loaded with protein, potassium and vitamins A, B, C and E, bananas have amazing moisturizing and soothing effects, and smell fantastic. To keep wrinkles at bay, mash a banana until creamy and apply to the face. Let sit for 15-20 minutes then rinse off with warm water. Bye-bye Raccoon EyesIf the eyes are the windows to the soul, what would dark circles project to the world? Get rid of tired eyes with a simple potato fix that helps to lighten unsightly circles in the super delicate eye area. Simply wrap a grated raw potato in cheesecloth and apply to the eyelids for 15-20 minutes, then wipe off the starchy residue. EGGcellentEgg whites are a simple (and frugal) way to tighten the skin and clear red spots. Separate the yolk from the egg whites, and whip the egg whites until frothy. Apply to a clean face and leave on for approximately 20 minutes. Wash off with warm water. On the flipside, egg yolks contain Vitamin A which helps with acne and scarring. Whip up an egg yolk and apply to the skin for 20 minutes, then wash off. As there is some debate about whether or not a person can catch salmonella from egg treatments, it is best to use free-range, organic eggs. Avoid getting any in the mouth, eyes or nose and wash well afterwards. Sticks to More than RibsOatmeal has long been known as a wholesome breakfast but it is also a fantastic beauty treatment with many nourishing properties, most notably used to soothe itchy or inflamed skin. For a relaxing Oat and Honey Milk Bath, use the following recipe:
Place all ingredients in a small fabric bag (cheesecloth again is great). Hang the bag under the faucet as the tub fills and the goodness will be evenly dispersed throughout the tub. A True MiracleThere is even an unusual beauty treatment called the Miracle Whip Exfoliator. Using the same Kraft Miracle Whip that Aunt Bee uses for her famous potato salad, this smelly concoction yields surprising results.
Beauty Beware: The vinegar smell may be bothersome, so walk around the house or sit outside. Inside OutNatural beauty products are a fun way to indulge and look great, but remember to also nourish the body from the inside out. Eat a balanced diet filled with natural, brightly-coloured foods and go organic whenever possible. Drink lots of water to keep internal organs well lubricated and to help flush out toxins that age the skin and body.
