By using inexpensive items from the pantry and medicine chest, you can make your own beauty products that contain no harsh chemicals, smell great and are always fresh.

When it comes to beauty, you need not spend a lot. Some women will stop at nothing to stay as youthful looking as possible., and that includes paying astronomical amounts for name brand moisturizers, exfoliants, cleansers and toners. Science however, has already proven that the lower cost beauty items available at your local pharmacy or department store work just as well.

However, you can have an effective skincare regime for far less than even these lower priced products cost. Here are some natural alternatives to manufactured beauty products that will keep you looking young and healthy for just a few cents per day.

Strawberries and Cream Facial

1 Tbs mashed fresh strawberries

1 Tbs Plain yogurt

Mix strawberries and yogurt together and apply to face and neck. Cover with a warm damp cloth and leave on for five minutes. Rinse with cold water and pat dry.

Facial Firming Mask

2 finely shredded carrots

1 Tbs potato or rice flour

1 egg yolk

Mix all ingredients together thoroughly and apply to freshly washed face and neck. Let mask sit for 15-20 minutes. Remove mask with warm water and then rinse face with cold water.

Revitalizing Peppermint Massage Oil

1 large handful of fresh mint leaves

100ml of Wheat Germ Oil

1-2 drops rosemary oil.

Add mint leaves and wheat germ oil together in a jar and let stand 2-3 weeks. Put mixture through a fine strainer or cheesecloth and discard the mint. Add rosemary oil, mix and store in a sealed jar. * You should not use rosemary oil if you suffer from high blood pressure, epilepsy or are pregnant.

Exfoliating Body Scrub

3 Tbs whipping cream

1 1/2 Tbs sea salt or kosher salt

In a small bowl beat cream and salt together until it is thick and creamy. Apply to entire body with fingertips using circular movements. Remove scrub in the shower or in the bath .

Dry Hair Shampoo

1 Tsp liquid honey

1 Tbs olive oil

Juice of one lemon or lime

2 egg yolks

1 egg white

Beat egg white until it begins to get a little foamy then fold in the yolks. Stir in lemon/lime juice, honey and olive oil. Gently massage mixture completely into hair and scalp. Leave in hair for several minutes and rinse well with warm (not hot) water.

Acne Treatments

  • Blemishes heal quickly when you apply small amounts of lemon juice.
  • Apply calamine lotion or with hazel to affected areas before going to bed. Both work very effectively on acne prone skin.
  • To get rid of blackheads rub affected areas with a freshly cut raw potato.

Tooth Whitener

  • Make your own whitening dental rinse by adding equal pasts of mouth wash and peroxide. Just rinse with it as you would regular mouth wash.
