Many of us love spending an afternoon at the spa. Yet in these tough economic times, not everyone can afford to do so. Save money by learning how to do it yourself.

Give Yourself a Facial at Home

If you wish to achieve the look and feel of spa skin, but don't have a spa budget, here are some great tips on how to give yourself a facial at home; and the best part is, almost everything that you will be using can be purchased from your favorite drug store.

Items You Will Need:

  • Gentle Cleanser (Preferably a lotion cleanser, such as Cetaphil)
  • Exfoliant (Choose one with the smallest grains possible, as smaller grains will not damage the skin by tearing the pores)
  • Clay Mask (Burt's Bees French Clay Pore Refining Mineral Mask is a great choice)
  • Cucumber (Reduces puffiness around eyes)
  • Moisturizer or Night Cream
  • Eye Cream
  • Lip Balm

Instructions

  1. Start with a refrigerated cucumber. Peel cucumber, then slice off two pieces about ½ inch thick each. Set aside.
  2. Cleanse your face and neck. Cleanse for 30 to 60 seconds. Use water that is cool in temperature, as water that is too hot can cause enlarged pores. *On everyday occasions, and especially if you are tired or in a hurry and don’t have a lot of time, always cleanse for at least 20 seconds, never less .
  3. Now it is time to exfoliate. Work exfoliator into face and neck, rubbing gently in a circular motion (you can also include your lips). Do this for about 30 seconds, then rinse in cool water. Pat face completely dry with a towel.
  4. Apply clay mask to face and neck avoiding eye area. Depending upon which brand of clay mask you choose, there may be some mixing required. If you choose Burt’s Bees, follow directions by adding water and mixing clay into a paste.

Time to Relax

Allow clay to dry on your face for ten to twenty minutes. During the drying process, lie down and apply chilled cucumber slices to your eyes. It is helpful to set a timer during the drying process so that you do not have to remove the cucumbers to peek at the clock. Take slow, deep breathes and relax!

Once your time is up, remove cucumbers from eyes, and then rinse clay from your face. Use very cold water- as cold as you can withstand! Use a washcloth to gently scrub clay from your face.

When finished, and while face is still quite moist, slather a thick layer of moisturizer or night cream over face and neck area. Gently apply eye cream around eye area with ring finger and then apply your lip balm.

*Usually, when applying your night cream, a small to moderate amount is sufficient. However, after cleansing, exfoliating, and masking, your skin will drink in the rich moisturizer and feel absolutely exuberant afterwards.

Your face should feel clean, fresh and revitalized!
