Money is tight these days and relaxation is evasive. De-stress and recuperate with an at-home pedicure. It’s about time those tired feet got some love!

Homemade Foot Soaks: Relax Your Mind and Condition Your Feet Simultaneously

There are many household ingredients that are extremely beneficial for the feet. For relieving pain and relaxing away soreness, simply dissolve a cup of Epson salt into warm water. Honey, milk, fresh herbs, chamomile tea and essential oils can also soothe and smooth aching feet. Baking soda is used in foot soaks to soften skin and eliminate odors. Some prefer to use specified bath salts for their feet or add fresh flowers for fragrance. There are hundreds of combinations of various ingredients; be creative and experiment to find the one that’s right for you, or begin by trying this simple recipe for relaxation and softer soles.

DIY Milk and Honey Relaxing and Moisturizing Foot Soak

  • 1 gallon of pleasantly warm water
  • 1 cup Epsom salt
  • 2 cups warm whole milk
  • ½ cup honey
  • 3 drops of almond essential oil

Homemade Foot Scrubs: The Frugal Approach to Smooth Feet

Exfoliation is a necessity for smooth, healthy looking feet. Shed dead skin cells, soften calluses, and treat your feet to a refreshing massage with a foot scrub. This process can be followed up and maintained by the daily use of a pumice stone, nature’s callus cure.

Following a soak to soften rough spots on the heels and toes, use a homemade foot scrub. There are several easy to find household exfoliators. Sugar, salt, coffee grounds, rolled oats, corn meal, and ground almonds are just a few very effective and cost-efficient examples. Try various combinations of these elements with olive oil, chopped spearmint or basil, honey, mashed strawberries, almond oil, aloe vera gel, cocoa butter, vitamin E, citrus juice, or yogurt.

DIY Mint and Lavender Calming Foot Scrub

  • ½ cup coarse sea salt
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3-4 sprigs fresh lavender, minced
  • 1 small handful fresh mint, minced

Moisturize: The Most Important (and Easiest) Element in Pedi Maintenance

If it’s not already a nightly ritual, moisturizing should become a bedtime priority. Whether you have expensive foot moisturizers or a large, cheap tub of cocoa butter lotion, slather it on. Try sprucing up a cheap value-sized bottle of lotion with essential oils and store in glass jars for a glamorous touch.

Once your feet are moisturized and massaged, slip on cotton socks. Or try a pair of spa socks—they are affordable and better than plain cotton for keeping moisture in. Your feet with be softened and moisturized as you snooze.
