Laser hair removal costs vary depending on location, the type of hair removal, the physician performing the procedure, and the number of sessions required.

The cost of laser hair removal can be high, but it is an effective and often permanent form of removing body hair. A physician must be consulted for exact pricing, but there are general guidelines available for determining an average cost. Use these guidelines as a starting point. They are estimates only, and do not represent exact pricing for any area.

Laser Hair Removal Costs by Region

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons places the average cost of laser hair removal at $429 per session. However, this can be slightly higher or lower, depending on a variety of factors, including regional location. The following list demonstrates the average price per region in the United States.

  • Southern U.S. - $400
  • Western U.S. - $420
  • Eastern U.S. - $425
  • Midwest U.S. - $450

Laser Hair Removal Costs by Area

Some laser hair removal treatments will cost significantly less than the figures above. Smaller areas of the body, such as the upper lip or bikini area may require less time to perform, and fewer treatments, resulting in a lower overall cost. However, others may be even more expensive. The following list demonstrates average laser hair removal pricing per session for various areas of the body.

  • Underarms - $250 to $350
  • Bikini area - $350 to $500
  • Arms - $350 to $500
  • Chest - $350 to $600
  • Lower legs - $600 to $850
  • Thighs - $600 to $850
  • Face and Neck - $600 to $900

How Laser Hair Removal Costs are Calculated

The reason for the dramatic variance in laser hair removal prices is the way they are calculated. The method used is different in every clinic, but in most cases can be placed into one of three categories – flat fee, timed, or fee per pulse. Each of these has advantages, depending on the type of session.

  • Flat fee – One time fee charged per session depending on the area of the body being addressed, usually most economical for large areas such as back and chest.
  • Timed – Charged per 15 minute blocks of laser hair removal, usually best for small areas that take the least time to treat, such as upper lip or bikini.
  • Fee per pulse – Charged based on the number of pulses (fires of the laser) it takes to remove hair from an area, only charged for actual pulses, can be economical for all areas depending on the fee.

Laser hair removal costs will be different for each individual, and the fees listed above should only be used as a rough guideline. They do not include additional doctor’s fees, but only cover the cost of the treatment. For exact pricing, please consult a laser hair removal clinic near you.
